FOUNDATION

Dear Parents,

The Foundation students were visited by some very special guests last week - including a giraffe! That is right, the Life Education Van arrived at Sirius College and the kids were invited aboard to learn how to keep themselves healthy. The incursion focussed on “Friendship” and students enjoyed animated stories, engaged in hands-on activities, and took part in discussions and problem solving with their peers.

The fun continued this week, with the Foundation class making Tabouleh salad using some ingredients from their veggie patch. They also sequenced pictures to make the salad and made a list of ingredients we used. Foundation students have continued to focus on writing recounts about special events or activities and wrote a recount of the Eid Festival celebration at school. In Maths, students revised addition, focussing on counting on from the larger of two numbers. They were encouraged to use their fingers to support their calculations - i.e. to solve 7+5 they would store 7 in their mind, then count on ‘8, 9, 10, 11’ raising one finger at a time.

I would also encourage you to borrow books from the local library during the holidays and continue reading with your child. Reading every day to your child should be a part of your daily routine.

Wish you safe and happy holidays!!
